Kitab aqidah, pengertian dari aqidah (Bahasa Arab: اَلْعَقِيْدَةُ; transliterasi: al-'Aqiydah) dalam istilah Islam yang berarti iman. Semua sistem kepercayaan atau keyakinan bisa dianggap sebagai salah satu aqidah. Pondasi akidah Islam didasarkan pada hadits Jibril, yang memuat definisi Islam, rukun Islam, rukun Iman, ihsan dan peristiwa hari akhir.
Dalam bahasa Arab akidah berasal dari kata al-'aqdu (الْعَقْدُ) yang berarti ikatan, at-tautsiiqu (التَّوْثِيْقُ) yang berarti kepercayaan atau keyakinan yang kuat, al-ihkaamu (اْلإِحْكَامُ) yang artinya mengokohkan (menetapkan), dan ar-rabthu biquw-wah (الرَّبْطُ بِقُوَّةٍ) yang berarti mengikat dengan kuat.

aqidah adalah iman yang teguh dan pasti, yang tidak ada keraguan sedikit pun bagi orang yang meyakininya. untuk itu sangat diperlukan sikap mengenali aqidah diri sendiri

Jadi, Akidah Islamiyyah adalah keimanan yang teguh dan bersifat pasti kepada Allah dengan segala pelaksanaan kewajiban, bertauhid dan taat kepadaNya, beriman kepada para malaikatNya, rasul-rasulNya, kitab-kitabNya, hari Akhir, takdir baik dan buruk dan mengimani seluruh apa-apa yang telah shahih tentang prinsip-prinsip Agama (Ushuluddin), perkara-perkara yang ghaib, beriman kepada apa yang menjadi ijma' (konsensus) dari salafush shalih, serta seluruh berita-berita qath'i (pasti), baik secara ilmiah maupun secara amaliyah yang telah ditetapkan menurut Al-Qur'an dan As-Sunnah yang shahih serta ijma' salaf as-shalih.Book of faith, understanding of the faith (Arabic: العقيدة; transliteration: al-'Aqiydah) in Islamic terms, which means faith. So, creed Islamiyya is a faith that is firm and is surely to God with all the implementation obligations, tauhid and obey Him, believe in His angels, apostles, book-His book, Last Days, the destiny of good and bad and believe the whole nothing have authentic principles of Religion (Islamic Theology), cases that unseen, faith in what the ijma '(consensus) of salafush salih, as well as all news qath'I (definitely), both scientifically and in amaliyah that has been established according to the Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah and ijma 'of the salaf as-salih.
