法師於西元1957年出生於高雄市，俗姓林。大學時代，由參加蓮因寺齋戒學會因緣，親近上懺下雲長老，遂立出世志。
畢業於政治大學會計系，期間曾親近過：煮雲長老、聖嚴長老 廣欽老和尚等大善知識。
1992年在埔里正覺精舍於上道下海律師座下出家，1993年3月於台南市新營區妙法禪寺受具足戒後，曾親近了一、夢參、妙境、果清、慧天長老等眾多善知識，並曾到過泰國行腳參訪數月，增受南傳戒等。

法師常以住持如法如律僧團，維護僧教育，弘揚大乘法教為己任。任教於台中南普陀佛學院、新竹福嚴佛學院、壹同女眾佛學院、嘉義義德寺般若淨宗學院、南投淨律寺學佛院，漢修學院、高雄悟光精舍、美國法雲禪寺佛學院等各佛學院，並受邀至海內外（美國加拿大、中國大陸、韓國、新加坡、馬來西亞）各地講戒或指導結夏安居。

歷年來法師依止上道下海律師的指導，主辦過青龍寺、淨律寺，協助鳳山寺、圓照寺、義德寺等三壇大戒，開啟台灣傳授單部三壇大戒之風氣。也常在各地戒會上擔任戒師、尊證阿闍黎，講解比丘戒、菩薩戒等課程。
