caboclinho
The caboclinho is a passerine bird of the Thraupidae family. Also known as caboclinho-verdadeiro, caboclinho-de-head-brown, little brotherhood (Pernambuco), caboclinho-paulista, caboclinho-crowned, ferrinha (Rio de Janeiro), ferrinha, caboclinho-beautiful (Amapá and Minas Gerais) , cabocolino (Pará and Ceará), coleirinho-do-brejo and caboclinho-frade.

Features:
Measures about 10cm in length. The male is generally cinnamon in color, with a black cap, wings and tail, and the female is olive brown on the upper parts and yellowish white on the undersides. The females of caboclinhos in general are very similar to each other, making it difficult to identify each species and allowing crossbreeding. The young have the same coloration as the females.

The subspecies shows variation in plumage in the predominant dark beige “brick” color. Common name: caboclinho. It occurs from the mouth of the Amazon River in Pará, throughout the Northeast region, Tocantins, Goiás, Minas Gerais, to the northeast of the state of São Paulo.

In this subspecies males are darker (“saturated”) than the nominal form. Distribution: surroundings of the city of São Paulo. Recently rediscovered. Some authors do not recognize this subspecies as distinct.

Food:
It is a granivorous bird.

Reproduction:
Each litter usually has between 2 and 3 eggs, having 2 to 4 litters per season. Puppies are born after 13 days.

Habits:
It is locally common in fields with tall grasses, open scrub and marshy areas. Outside the reproductive period, it lives in groups, sometimes large, often among other species that also feed on seeds. Caboclinhos in general, when molting their feathers, acquire a faded plumage, only returning to normal in the next molt (before the reproductive period), just like the tiziu.

Geographic distribution:
Present from the estuary of the Amazon River and Maranhão to Rio Grande do Sul, including the entire Northeast and Southeast regions, extending west to Goiás and Mato Grosso. Also found in Argentina, Paraguay and Suriname.
