The app supports personal financial planning and tracks income and expenditure access an unlimited number of accounts of various types. The functions usually available in applications of this sort are provided, including management of repeating transactions and transaction reminders.

Transactions in foreign currencies are supported, both as single foreign transactions (e.g. credit card payments in foreign currency) and for accounts held in foreign currencies. The "home" currency, and therefore what is foreign, is defined by the user. All EU and important world currencies are predefined, others can be defined and added to the list. Automatic update of the exchange rate table through access to public ECB Exchange Rate information is provided.

The app supports automatic account reconciliation, if the bank can provide transaction data in the form of a downloadable csv-format file (most banks do this). A function for adapting the file format of any bank is provided. For security reasons, the app never actually reads data directly from a bank interface and never initiates any online banking function. Data must always be obtained by use of the standard manual online banking interface provided by the bank, and presented as a local file to the app. If a machine readable form of the bank statement is not available, account reconciliation is also possible using a printed paper statement.

Transactions are assigned to categories. A set of categories in included in the installation, but this can be adapted as required. In addition, user-defined attributes can be attached to transaction data. All these characteristics can be used to filter the ledger and to defined data subsets for export.

Data export in csv format is provided, so that convex data analysis, if required, can be easily performed by third-party software (usually some form of spreadsheet would be used).

Data synchronisation between multiple devices is supported via the user's dropbox account. This applies both to synchronisation between Android devices and synchronisation with the desktop (Window and Mac OS X) variants, which are available from the kippsware web site - www.kippsnet.de/kware.

The app is free of charge for download and evaluation using a limited data volume. For more extensive use, a licence must be purchased via the in-app purchase function.
