O primeiro trabalho da IPB – Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil realizado em Vicente de Carvalho, antiga, Itapema, foi dirigido pela 1ª IPB de Santos em 1948 na casa de uma irmã chamada Donatila. A Escola Dominical tinha entre 50 e 60 alunos. Por motivos desconhecidos o trabalho não teve continuidade, e alguns dos irmãos se dispersaram, outros passaram a freqüentar outras denominações.

No início de 1958, dez anos depois, veio da Bahia residir nesta cidade, Cezário Pereira de Matos, um servo do Senhor, cuja família era numerosa. Passados 8 meses, este irmão foi acometido de uma grave doença, e não resistindo, veio a falecer.

Enquanto viveu, este irmão foi um exemplo para seus filhos, que jamais se esqueceram de tudo quanto haviam aprendido e principalmente do compromisso que tinham com Deus.

Em janeiro de 1959, um de seus filhos, José Pereira Alves, sentindo a necessidade do cumprimento das promessas feitas por ocasião do batismo de seus filhos, reconheceu a necessidade de organizar um grupo para buscar a Deus e estudar a sua Palavra, a Bíblia. Para que isso se concretizasse, reuniu-se com os seus irmãos, filhos e alguns parentes que também vieram da Bahia, e lhes expôs a idéia. Concordemente todos aceitaram de bom grado, e assim, começaram a reunir-se.

Exatamente no dia 18 de janeiro de 1959, foi realizado o primeiro estudo bíblico na primeira Escola Dominical, na casa de José Pereira Alves. Começava uma nova etapa.

Quase um ano depois, foi organizada a Primeira Igreja Presbiteriana em São Vicente, e este grupo de Vicente de Carvalho, filiou-se àquela igreja, tornando-se aqui um ponto de Pregação e posteriormente Congregação, sendo assistida por aqueles irmãos. Em 1960, foi adquirida uma propriedade na rua 11 de maio nº 6, onde os trabalhos passaram ser realizados.

Os responsáveis nesta ocasião, eram Francisco Damião de Lima de da igreja de São Vicente e os irmãos José Pereira Alves e Ezequias Pereira Alves que aqui residiam.

Em 1961, foi eleito o primeiro pastor da Igreja Presbiteriana de São Vicente, Rev. Jonas Rufino da Silva, o qual durante 4 anos, não poupou esforços em dar total assistência nesta congregação.

Toda dedicação e empenho dos responsáveis juntamente o Rev. Jonas trouxe bons frutos. E conseqüência maior e principal foi a organização da Igreja Presbiteriana de Vicente de Carvalho no dia 31 de janeiro de 1965.

Nesta ocasião foram arrolados 44 membros comungantes e 48 menores. Exactly on January 18, 1959, it was held the first Bible study on the first Sunday School in the José Pereira Alves from home. Began a new stage.

Almost a year later, the First Presbyterian Church was organized in São Vicente, and this group of Vicente de Carvalho, he joined that church, becoming one here Preaching point and later Congregation, assisted by those brothers. In 1960, it was acquired a property in the street May 11 No. 6, where work began to be realized.

Those responsible for this occasion were Francisco Damião de Lima church of St. Vincent and the brothers José Pereira Alves Pereira Alves and Hezekiah lived here.
