Na Diabetes tipo 2 não é fácil determinar o momento ideal para se iniciar o tratamento com insulina. No entanto, a insulinoterapia, tanto a nível transitório como definitivo, tem vindo a adquirir um papel importante no tratamento deste tipo de Diabetes.

Atualmente, pensa-se na insulina como uma terapêutica eficaz para atingir e manter os objetivos terapêuticos estabelecidos, preservando, se possível, a função residual das células pancreáticas. Este facto faz antever o uso mais precoce e sistemático da insulina na Diabetes tipo 2.

• Identificar os principais tipos de insulina;
• Identificar situações em que é preciso iniciar insulina;

In Type 2 diabetes is not easy to determine the optimal time to start treatment with insulin. However, the insulin, both transient and permanent level, has gained an important role in the treatment of this type of diabetes.
