Nairobi is the capital of Kenya, as well as the capital of the homonymous county. Its name derives from the phrase maasai enkare nai-robi, literally "place of cold water". In Kenya, it is also called by two nicknames: Green City in the Sun ("green city in the sun", due to the mild climate and the many green areas) and Safari Capital of the World ("world safari capital", with reference to its role as a hub towards Kenyan tourist circuits).
Nairobi is located in south-central Kenya, 140 kilometers (87 miles) south of the equator. It is surrounded by 113 km² (70 mi²) of plains, cliffs and forests that make up the Nairobi National Park. It is adjacent to the eastern edge of the Rift Valley and to the west of the city are the Ngong Hills. Mount Kenya is located north of Nairobi, while Mount Kilimanjaro is located in the southeast.
As the capital of Kenya and a destination for many visitors, it is well served by international airlines and a regional road network that connects it to other major urban centers in East Africa. they connect Nairobi to, the second largest city in Kenya located on the shores of the Indian Ocean and Kisumu, the third largest city, located on the shores of Lake Victoria.
