Nato nel 1938, su progetto dell'architetto Lancia, rappresenta una delle strutture più riuscite dell'opera di questo grande architetto dell'epoca prebellica.

A gestirlo viene chiamato un personaggio di grande rilievo: Remigio Paone.

Iniziano le programmazioni e compaiono a Milano i fratelli Titina, Eduardo e Peppino De Filippo.

Per anni si alternavano poi le compagnie più note.
E' il 1943, la guerra infuria e l'antifascismo di Paone ormai non può più essere tollerato.

E così è costretto a scappare a Roma dove rimarrà fino al 1945, con la Liberazione d'Italia Remigio Paone torna a Milano e riprende le redini del Teatro Nuovo.

Ricominciano così i grandi successi.
Nel 1977 muore Remigio.

Franco Ghizzo, subentra alla gestione Paone. Il Teatro Nuovo, a poco a poco, riconquista l'interesse del pubblico milanese. Ricompaiono i nomi, il grande teatro, le grandi star internazionali e non: Liza Minnelli, Julio lglesias, Jerry Lewis; Carmelo Bene, Mariangela Melato, Massimo Ranieri, il Trio Marchesini, Lopez, Solenghi, Vittorio Gassman e Marcello Mastroianni.

Alla scomparsa del compianto Franco nel marzo 2004 la direzione artistica del Teatro Nuovo di Milano passa alla moglie Gemma e alla figlia Monica.
