The Mediator - Kids Story and Activity Book

The Mediator
Once upon a time there was a big shadowy tree in a jungle. There lived a crow in a hollow of that tree. He used to set out in the morning in search of food and came back in the evening every day.
One day he flew to some other place to see his friend for a few days. Meanwhile his place was vacant.
Then a rabbit saw the hollow of the tree. He liked that peaceful, shadowy and calm place. He started living in that hollow.
One day the crow came back. He saw the rabbit living in his home. He got angry to see this. He furiously told the rabbit to leave his place but he refused.
The rabbit said, “It was your place when you lived here. Now I live here, so it is my place. I would not go.”
They both started fighting. No one wanted to leave the place. At last they decided to go to a wise person who can do the justice.
They set out in search of a wise person to solve their problem. One shrewd cat was listening their conversation secretly. He made a plan so that he could eat both of them.
The cunning cat disguised like a saint and sat down in their way pretending as if he is absorbed in meditation.
They got impressed with him but they were a bit afraid of him as he was a cat. So they didn’t go near to him.
The cat realized their fear. To make them comfortable he said, “I am the true follower of the God and I don’t do any harm to the God’s people. I even don’t eat flesh. I am vegetarian…”
He continued, “…I can see the past, present and future. I know you have come here to solve some issue between you both. So don’t be afraid of me, come near to me and tell me your problem. I will solve it.”
Cats words made the crow and the rabbit fearless and comfortable. So they went near to him and when they were about to tell their problem the cat jumped upon them and ate both of them.
The moral of the story is “It is always wise to settle our arguments ourselves otherwise the third person could take unfair advantage of the situation.”
